The Photographic legacy of the DAO
and John Stanley Plaskett
Speaker: Dennis Crabtree
The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (DAO) is fortunate to have a treasure trove of historic photographic material. The DAO has approximately 150 photographs of the site and construction of the telescope between 1914 and 1918. Most of these are on 20cm x 25cm glass photographic plates.
John Stanley Plaskett was an avid amateur photographer. Before moving to Toronto, Plaskett was Vice-President of the Toronto Camera Club. While in Toronto he dis some of the first work on colour photography in Canada. A few hundred of Plaskett's personal photographs taken between 1910-1914 were discovered at the DAO a few years ago.
This presentation will show many of these historic photographs and explore the their stories and historical significance
Tickets will be available Monday at 5pm on this page 12 days prior to the event.
