The heart of the Friends of the DAO is our dedicated team, who share a love of astronomy and a commitment to promoting scientific literacy. We are looking for one or two enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Universe Concierge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead engaging tours: guide groups from 2-25 people through the Observatory, sharing its history and scientific significance.

  • Share knowledge: Provide accessible and accurate information about astronomy, the site, and related science.

  • Deliver excellent guest experience: Maintain a friendly, professional, and inclusive atmosphere, ensuring all visitors feel welcome.

  • Ensure safety: Keep groups together, supervise participants, and follow safety protocols throughout tours.

  • Adapt and problem-solve: Respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations or questions.

  • Promote our mission: Help convey the purpose and values of the Friends of the DAO to the public.

Required Skills:

  • Public speaking: Confidently present clear, engaging, and informative commentary to diverse audiences.

  • Strong communication: Listen actively and answer questions in an approachable and accurate manner.

  • Organization & time management: Keep tours running smoothly and on schedule.

  • Interpersonal skills: Build rapport with guests, foster curiosity, and create an enthusiastic group experience.

  • Safety awareness: Apply and follow appropriate safety procedures at all times.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think on your feet and resolve issues that may arise during a tour.

Job Requirements: 

Bondable: Will be working on a Federal Site, may need security clearance as well as working with cash, and opening & closing

Availability: Fridays and/or Saturdays from 11:30am to 6:30pm

Interest:  Interest in STEM, particular interest in Astronomy and/or physics

Transportation: Please note that the site isn’t served by public transportation, the successful applicant will be responsible for getting themselves to and from the site

First Aid: Certification in first aid is beneficial, but not required. 

Training will be provided.
