The Death of Stars
w/ Ben Dorman
Stars come to their ends in several different ways, some very violent, some relatively peaceful. The late stages of the evolution of stars are determined by their mass at formation and also by how much mass they lose on their way.
This talk will use images and data taken with the Plaskett Telescope at DAO, the Hubble Space Telescope, and the James Webb Telescope to illustrate the late evolution and death of stars.
Ben Dorman is the founding chair of the Friends of the DAO since its inception in 2015. He received a Ph.D. on late stellar evolution from the University of Victoria. He subsequently worked at the Universities of Maryland and Virginia and at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Centre on space observations of star populations and the integrated populations of galaxies. While working in the IT field, he describes himself now as a 'recovering astronomer' with a keen interest in current developments.
