An Intimate Evening among the planets -
The Celestial Saxophone Orchestra Plays
The Planets
by Gustav Holst
Experience an unforgettable evening of music, refreshments, and astronomy at the Centre of the Universe adjacent to the historic Dominion Astrophysical Observatory.
Acclaimed conductor Stephen Capaldo leads the Celestial Saxophone Orchestra performing Holst’s The Planets, one of the most celebrated orchestral works of the 20th Century.
Planets are like neighbours to we earthlings. Shouldn’t we know a little more about our neighbourhood? That curiosity will be showcased in the music written by Gustav Holst whose passion for astrology gave him inspiration. And a very different kind of curiosity will also be on display in our visitor centre celebrating Canadian space science and astrophysical research.
Your ticket includes a pre-concert reception featuring cuisine prepared by Camosun College Culinary Arts. Enjoy our exhibit gallery and a short planetary fly-by in our intimate planetarium setting. Following the concert, and weather permitting the chance to see Venus, Jupiter and beyond through a telescope.
This special evening will raise funds for the Centre of the Universe and our educational programs. Thousands of students visit us throughout the year, inspired by the wonders of the cosmos and for some, getting inspiration for career choices yet to be made.
A charitable tax receipt will be available upon request for a portion of the ticket price.
