Guest Presentation: Cosmology: the Wonder and Nightmare of Contemporary Physics

Summary

Contemporary Physics represents the culmination of centuries of intellectual efforts dedicated to formulating the fundamental laws that govern the nature of matter, energy, and their interactions. These laws, however, fail to describe the Universe as a whole: neither the matter we know is the one that dominates the Universe, nor the energy we know is the one that governs its expansion and final fate. I will try to review how Cosmology has become in the past few decades the final frontier of our understanding of Nature.
