The Artemis Missions: Canada's Future in Space

Randy Attwood, Mississauga Centre, RASC

Abstract

Canada has had a long history in space exploration - using scientific space probes to explore the new frontier and sending Canadian astronauts into space. The Artemis program will give our astronauts the opportunity to travel beyond low Earth orbit to the Moon - maybe even down to the lunar surface. This talk will take a look back at Canada's history in space and a look ahead at the Artemis program.

Biography

Randy Attwood is an amateur astronomer, astrophotographer, space mission historian, eclipse chaser, media host and volunteer extraordinaire for many local and national science outreach organizations. He was President of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and then took over the role of Executive Director of the RASC before he retired in 2019. He is an ardent fan of Space Exploration, ever since he saw his first launch in 1982. His knowledge of the Apollo Space Missions is legendary. There are so many stories to tell. Ask him about his License Plate number on his car. He has been honoured with his own Asteroid, number 260235 "Atwood" and we are honoured to have him speak to our members and the public at our Star Party.
