Stars on the Beach: A Fundraiser in Support of Science Education
Support the Friends of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory’s work to increase science literacy through its school tours by joining us at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel on April 23rd to raise funds for science education.
Thanks to grants from The Victoria Foundation and The Hamber Foundation, in 2019 FDAO provided over 74 interactive educational tours to schools in our area. Students at the elementary and secondary levels received educational workshops aligned with the BC Ministry of Education’s science curriculum and visited a working observatory. Because our Schools Programme is grant funded, however, they may have to end with the end of the school year.
Join us after work from 5:30-8:30 pm on April 23rd to ensure that science education at the Centre of the Universe and Dominion Astrophysical Observatory continues. The evening will feature a short presentation by FDAO Board Member and CBC Radio’s Quirks and Quarks host, Bob McDonald, a live and silent auction, and opportunities to see the stars (weather permitting). The event will feature hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Bring along your colleagues from the office for a great team activity to support a good cause.
Tickets are available here. If you have an item or service you would like to donate to our auction, please email us at fundraising@centreoftheuniverse.org
